On Monday, Country radio legend Rusty Walker died of a heart attack. In the early 1980s, he hired my father to help build Rusty Walker Programming Consultants, what would become one the most successful radio agency’s in the country. He’s the reason our young family moved to Mississippi, and his nephew,  my “attorney” David Darwin, is one of my dearest friends.

Just a couple of months after he was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame, the industry is mourning his loss, from our families to trade blogs to the musicians he’s met over the years, like Reba Mcentire.

Do me a favor. Listen to your favorite country song you heard growing up. There’s a good chance Rusty is the reason you heard it.

I love you Dad.
